Social Media Marketing

Hi Guys!

For the project assigned in my Marketing class we were to find two different companies with a branded social media page. The two companies I chose were Sobeys and the N.B.A.

The Sobeys branded content is a Facebook page for Sobeys Extra East Point.

The N.B.A. branded content is a twitter page designated for the N.B.A. All-Star Game.

Facebook

The social media marketing used by Sobeys was very interesting. The advertisement is promoting the recent newly opened store, Sobeys Extra East Point. The city of Saint John is considered a city with a heavy and older population.[1] For a grocery store to offer classes to educate the public on proper nutrition is significant. Not only is the class offered twice a week to fulfill the needs of a city, but also the program is a seven-week course. Seven weeks can influence someones eating behaviour.

The company’s objectives are to encourage the citizens of Saint John to attend a nutrition program located at Sobeys Extra East Point. Of course, the background effect of this has people coming into the store, where training, learning and eating food; they would be likely to purchase groceries from this store. The company is being socially responsible by educating the public of a healthier lifestyle.

This advertisement is very encouraging. I am considering of attending the program and have contacted Karen Simon to see if that is possible. I have an interest in learning how to eat healthier, as I typically end the night playing my PS4 eating chips and pizza.

N.B.A. All-Star

Twitter

The National Basketball Association (N.B.A.) has dedicated a branded page on Twitter for fans to select their favourite players to attend the N.B.A. All-Star Game. The All-Star Game is in New Orleans held on February 19, 2017. For fans to vote they are to post a tweet containing the hashtag (#NBAAllStar) and including the last name of the player representing the vote. Fan voting only represents 50% of the vote, the remaining 50% of determining who is selected from owners and general managers of teams. The N.B.A. permits fans to vote a maximum of ten times daily.

For this example, the N.B.A. uses Social Media Marketing effectively. It is known through the culture of the N.B.A. fans voting for who to attend the All-Star Game since, 2003. The N.B.A’s objective is to have the All-Star Game having the best players representing each conference. Permitting fans to select which players to attend the All-Star Game is a great social interaction with fans. Having the fans select who represent is a democratic way of viewing who the fans assume are the best players in the league. The N.B.A. achieves the objective of giving fans the best All-Star Game as the fans chose the players.

I personally vote for my favourite players. I do not vote ten times daily, but occasionally I do vote multiple times a day. This way of social media marketing has influenced me to participate in the voting. As my tweet shows up from those who are following me, it encourages my followers to vote for their favourite player.

Thanks for Reading!
